Recent administrative status update in June 2026

Mumbai, June 23, 2026: The General Administrative Department (GAD) of Maharashtra relieved Senior IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe from his additional role as the Guardian Secretary of Parbhani district, replacing him with bureaucrat Dr Chandrakant Pulakundwar, currently serving as Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, according to a Maharashtra government order issued on Tuesday. No major reason was mentioned in the order for Mundhe's removal. In contrast, he remains the full–time chief of the Maharashtra FDA. Reportedly, Mundhe is currently serving as Commissioner of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), where he was posted in May’26.

Viewpoint expressed on how an honest officer is needed in the food and drug industry to protect the nation’s youth.

During my research, destiny led me to meet a guy named Tejas (name changed to protect his privacy). I couldn’t understand their significance until I travelled to Punjab and saw drug prohibition warnings on every bus. His palms were trembling, and he needed a cigarette to overcome the tremors in his hands. His room was full of empty alcohol bottles. It was a new environment for me. I tried my best to help him as much as I could, but it worked only temporarily, not permanently. Later, when the situation became worse, I quit for the sake of my well-being. Whoever consumes alcohol, drugs, or any kind of substance tends to have a brain that functions differently and more aggressively than those who do not. It only consumes the health and future of the youth.

I contemplated and kept mourning. He could have spent that money on his career, learning new skills, buying or gifting books, watching motivational videos, or at least doing charity work for those who needed it. If the youth indulge in drugs and alcohol, how will the nation’s economy grow? Such things should be banned, and celebrities should not promote such advertisements for the sake of the health of the youth. Harming one’s body in the name of coolness or social acceptance in modern society is nothing but a mere excuse.

Another experience was when I interacted with a guy named Karthik (name changed to protect his privacy), who used to consume cigarettes. He was not a chain smoker, but he smoked 2-3 times a day. He didn’t realise that even such small amounts of consumption could lead to severe health issues. During the COVID period, he could not sustain good health, and his immunity level dropped significantly. He suffered from high blood pressure and eye pressure, which led to nosebleeds. When his family rushed him to a specialist, the doctor advised him to quit smoking. He could have died.

Therefore, for the sake of the country’s youth and economy, an honest officer like Tukaram Mundhe, in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Maharashtra, is a blessing. I wish him every success in his future endeavours, and Good Luck. Hats off to him.
