The ideal age for cycling is supposed to be 6... something,
But "I" could not get on the pedal till I became sweet 16.
The fear of speed, falling down, and applying the brakes,
I could never ride to the school anytime, taking out my cycle for a break.
All my friends looked so cool on their bikes, with their backpacks,
It seemed "I" was the only "odd one out" of the whole gang!!
My story of learning to bicycle is quite interesting,
As a friend extended me a favour, to train me as he knew it was so frustrating.
He ran behind me catching the seat from the back, when we went to the nearby park,
And all the tiny tots on seeing me learn at this age, were amazed as if they saw a "Shark".
My friend taught me everything except how to apply brakes,
So I used to lower my speed on the sharp turns of the park to avoid falling down, in case I was "late".
But my bicycle was not always so very kind to me,
As one day while I was riding in the park, I saw a stray dog running just behind me.
"What should I do? What Should I do?", I shouted to my friend in despair !!!
"Just apply the brakes you fool!!", that's what he said that I could hear.
With a dog behind me, and a cycle under me in that massive shock;
I smashed my cycle to the seat that was put in the park for the elderly, which hit me too hard like a rock.
Alas!!!! My leg was all bruised up with thick blood oozing out in that spur,
And all the neighbours and my friend rushed to my rescue, which appeared at that time far from any cure...
After a painful "shot" from the doctor, and a week's rest,
I again took my bicycle to the park, this time with the willpower to do my best.
As I was much aware of the brakes, and with some less fear,
And also had a rough idea of how to save myself, if any doggy was near.
With constant practice and determination at last, I won the ordeal ;
And cried to my mom and sis to come out and see me riding, which was no longer a big deal,
They came rushing out for my support, cheering and shouting at me in joy,
As finally, I had learnt to ride a bike, not at 6 but at sixteen "O Boy!!!!"
