Every time I look out of my window, I can see the watchman, who happens to be an old man, greeting people and inspecting other labourers, and as many of us say, taking note of what is happening in each household of the society! Whatsoever he does- sitting in the corner the whole day, vigilance for some, and interruption for others, the truth is that he is on duty. He does the same thing daily, gets paid for it and that is how he spends his life. Utterly boring, indeed!
But wait a moment. Don't we all do the same! We take birth, grow up, enter schools, leave schools, enter colleges, leave colleges, and then everyday enter offices and leave in the evening, only to return the next day. Now you may think what about business tycoons and actors and travellers, who supposedly have a much better and interesting routine. But that is not the point here. The point is we work and earn and spend- on ourselves, and on family, of course. We don't even realize and our whole life passes repeating the same regime. I wonder if that is life? Then upon contemplating, I conclude Definitely Not!
Allah sends all of us to serve specific purposes in life. I do believe that the primary aim of one's life is Ibadat and preparation for the Afterlife, but I also believe that all of us have specific roles to offer in our lifetime. Now when I say this, I am sure that most of the readers will start visualizing people who establish huge non-profit organizations or self-help citizen groups, which without any doubt are really essential tools for people to come together and start contributing towards human welfare, but the sphere of human augmentation goes beyond this realm. It includes the efforts made by aboriginal people towards making people aware about forest conservation, and a mother teaching her children the morals and values of life, and youth working for educating the underprivileged children, and the people protesting against the frantic occupations across the world! It can include anything and everything that is being done for human welfare.
Another context of my contemplation is - How many of us really know about these goals of life, let alone have given a thought to this dimension of life? Imagine the potential difference that can be made if each one of us starts realizing it. I am sure there will be no problem, that we face collectively or individually, left unsolved, let alone unattended.
