Tinder is the highest-rated, popular dating app in which youngsters can choose their dating partner according to his/her qualities.

But being a famous app, Tinder has some serious allegations like, most of the accounts are fake like some ai bots used to chat with viewers, discrimination between their subscribers i.e, tinder chargers more to those subscribers who are above 30 years, discouraging LGBTQ by charging premium subscription and, so on. Are these allegations true? Let’s find out in this article.

The Tinder app was launched by Sean Rad and his team in 2012. The one who installed and used the app can find their partner by swiping up the profiles like Instagram scrolling. Within a short period of time, tinder registered one billion swipes for an average day. Soon it gained very huge popularity between youngsters.

Tricks used by Tinder:

If tinder got to know that a particular user is not spending much time on the app Or didn’t open for the app for 2-3 days then it sends some notifications like, “(name) liked your profile. “, “(name) sent you a message”. But most of the messages are resulted to be fake in order to engage their viewer to the app. Some customers alleged that when they want to chat with any profile which seems to be in online, they are actually offline.

The app allows users to browse through photos of potential mates within a given radius who are also using the app. Users can either view others’ profiles or initiate contact with them directly from their profile page.

Overview:

Tinder has over 40 million active users worldwide as of June 2018 (Statista). The popularity of Tinder has led to its expansion into other countries such as Canada and Australia (Statista). However, despite its widespread appeal, there are some downsides to using this app for personal use. In this essay, I will discuss some drawbacks associated with Tinder that may not be ideal for personal use.

Major drawbacks:

The first issue is privacy on Tinder. Since you have to ‘swipe right’ on someone’s photo before you can see their profile, it makes it easy for your date to find out where you work or go to school if you match with them (Business Insider). This could potentially put your safety at risk if your date is a stalker or wants revenge after a breakup.

The second issue is the lack of control over your dating profile. When you first create your account on Tinder, you have to fill out a lot of personal information about yourself such as age, gender, and location. This information is then used by other users to decide whether they want to message or not (Business Insider). This can be very frustrating if you don’t want anyone messaging you but still want people to see your profile. You can only change some of this information after a few months but it takes forever and there are no options for those who are younger than 18 years old (Business Insider). This makes it difficult for young people who are just starting out in their dating lives to use Tinder since they may not know what kind of information they should include on their profiles.

The third issue is the difficulty in finding matches that are compatible with you on Tinder. Since Tinder has millions of users worldwide, it can be overwhelming trying to find matches that are compatible with you based on the limited criteria that the app provides (Statista). For example, if someone’s interests match yours perfectly but their location doesn’t match yours then there isn’t much chance for a successful date (Statista). To help solve this problem many people use third-party apps like Happn or Bumble which allow users to browse through potential dates based on certain criteria rather than using solely within Tinder (Statista).

The fourth issue is the lack of privacy on Tinder. Since you are only allowed to see your own matches and those that have messaged you, there isn’t much privacy on the app (Business Insider).

The fifth issue is the difficulty in finding matches that are compatible with you on Tinder. However, these apps require extra steps before using them so many people do not even try them because they think they won’t work as well as just using within the app.

The sixth issue is the difficulty in meeting people that are interested in you on Tinder. Since there are so many users on Tinder, it can be difficult to find matches that are interested in you based on your profile (Business Insider). This is because the app only allows you to include a few pieces of information about yourself such as age and gender which makes it hard for someone who wants to hide their age from potential dates (Business Insider). To help solve this problem some people use third-party apps like Ok Cupid or Hinge which allow users to create a more detailed profile and then browse through potential matches based on certain criteria rather than just using within Tinder (Business Insider). However, these apps require extra steps before using them so many people do not even try them because they think they won’t work as well as just using them within the app.

The seventh issue is the difficulty in getting matches when swiping right too quickly. The swipe right/left feature of Tinder requires users to move their fingers across the screen very quickly without taking into consideration what each person’s picture looks like or how well-matched their interests may be (Statista). This can cause confusion for both parties if they don’t match well and lead to frustration for both parties if they do match well but then have no way of communicating with one another since there isn’t any form of communication available within the app.
