The most addictive of them all. Hope. It gives you the type of high that you have craved for most of your life. When you find it, you tend to want it even more endlessly. It feels like the little spot of light shining brightly in the darkest of all rooms, but you can’t seem to reach it. It goes farther away as you slowly take steps toward that dot. That feeling is the worst and the darkest one in the rainbow of emotions in your life.
Hope is not meant to be found, it is meant to be desired. You don’t try to find it unless you are desperate for it. It comes and goes beyond your reach but is still so far away. You think you are closer, but it’s just an illusion. You are overcome by so many emotions that you can’t seem to gather your thoughts and you dive deep into the dark depths of the ocean. That place, the deepest, darkest one, is the insufferable prison whose key is hidden out of your reach. The said key is that spot of shining light that seems to illuminate the world but you are not lucky enough to get even a little speck of it. It gets lost in the chaos before you are given a chance to find it.
The spectrum of life has various colours in various shades. The lighter ones are for the whole world, but the darkest ones are for the elite who are desperate enough to want them. Hope is one of the dark colours found in this colourful world. People think of Hope as a bright feeling, a feeling of satisfaction, but when you get to feel it, it is as dark as a moonless night. It claws through your heart and mind. Then it makes you feel good and safe for a little while, but don’t fall into the trap. It doesn’t take much time to rear its ugly head in front of you. Within a fleeting second, your high drops down so fast, it makes you lose control.
Hope doesn’t give you what it is supposed to. But it sure does tarnish you with the label of a
coward for the rest of your life. It leaves its mark on your soul and you have to survive with it. And yet, Hope remains the greatest hunger in this hysterical world. It is a drug by choice that people are ready to die for. The most yearned feeling you can crave in the dark is Hope. But it is not as simple to obtain as it seems. You have to want it bad enough and still, there is a chance that it will deceive you in the end.
To earn something, you have to fight for it. And Hope is the most implausible thing anyone can want. It is the Queen of the Kingdom of Feelings who bows only before the supreme. It demands the best of the best to come and race and beg for it until their last breath. If you win the race, you win your peace. You win the freedom you have been waiting for. You win the Queen. You get your hands on the most sought-after feeling, Hope, and you relish it with all your might. You should handle it with the utmost care, as it is the elixir of life when you are living in the dark.
When you are just hanging by a single thread, what you desire is Hope. When you are at the end of the rope, what you need is for Hope to save you and pull you up before you go crashing down.
You want it, you crave it and when you get it, you love it more than your dear life. You can't get enough of it. It becomes your addiction. You make Hope a drug by your own dark choice. When you suffer, you come running back to it. You need an escape from the struggles. You rely on Hope to save you once more from that dreading you feel.
The long nights, the deep, never-ending depths of the ocean, or the endless spirals in your mind, are not the problem. They just need a simple cure. The cure is Hope, which is anything but simple to get. Sure it can get you through the darkest, loneliest of times, but it leaves you with an addiction to it that can't be overcome easily. Hope may be the last thing ever lost, but it's also the most elusive one.
It is said that false hope is better than no hope at all. But does it help someone when they are at their lowest and desperately need something to be as they want it? Does false hope give them what they crave? Isn't it better to help them and not give them false hope and make them addicted to the idea that they'll be alright after some time? When they can't be.
Hope is the only thing stronger than fear. But when it becomes your drug, it becomes the only strongest thing to make you weak every time you don't get it. You hope because you want it to come true. You want it so badly to save you from the dark you are falling into. But hope does nothing more than throw you into a spiral and mess you up until you lose every chance of finding hope again. You die a little every time it betrays you. And you keep dying little deaths until you vanish altogether.
Hope is meant to shine the brightest in the dark. It does. Yet, it never fully illuminates the place and gives you the light you need to see the way. It seems like a mirage for the thirsty on a hot burning summer day in the vast golden desert. You see it, yet you can't feel its presence. You want to get to it and grab it, but it just isn't there anymore. Hope works the same way. It hallucinates you into thinking that it will help you through the dark, but instead leaves you hanging and maybe pushes you a little more into depth.
