She lay there,
Resting her head
on her little pillow case-
a stuffed shaggy sack
that seemed breathing
through the gaping holes.
Her eyes were wide awake
As she stared at the starry night sky.
Happy was her little heart
Under the comfort
Of her ragged blanket.
On the same floor-
The pavement beside the road,
Lay a companion
Beside her….
A timid stray dog
With fear in its eyes.
For, With every sound of a footfall,
It woke with a startle quite alarmed.

I wondered at the contentment
On that unknown little face
Homeless was she
Orphaned and lost.
But the bliss she had in her soul
Glowed like the moon
In its silver light…..
It’s then no wonder,
How a pre-occupied passer by
A busy man like me
Stopped by
to see the spectacle
that would have
Otherwise gone unseen.
A moment of epiphany
Now the divine spotlight on me…
God was in the abundance
In a kind and grateful heart
Not in the rich suit that carried
a heavy wallet inside
My weary self
now knew the reason why
I carried an unhappy heart.
I forgot to look where I had to look
And it had gotten me so very far
On the other side of happiness
Until I saw
the soul laden with joy…..
yes, a tiny toddler taught me a great lesson of life
I returned this time home
Quite rich with a grateful heart !!!
