Today the name “Trust” lives in the deep memories of many grown-up people like me who have taken full advantage of the borrowed books from it in 70’s and 80’s when its domicile was in Hussaini Hall Nowpora Srinagar. The poor parents of ambitious students would get a list of high-cost books and the “Trust” would issue such mostly used books to the applicant's parents under somebody’s recommendations. Predominantly after matriculation, the books of few particular and limited authors were hard to buy by economically weaker sections of society and the “Trust” was the last ray of hope.

It has remained a pillar in providing educational support and resources to countless Shia sect students in the entire valley of Kashmir. The journey started by a few noble souls in 1968 is still on and the mission has seen a generation of students being facilitated by one way or another. During the late 80’s its road and mission got widespread in the form of Imamia Public schools being established in many far-flung and underdeveloped villages. The basic idea of philanthropic support in the form of free textbooks has grown steadily rich with the passage of time with appropriate trend-following. From a single community room in Nowpora to a rented room in Alamgari Bazar and now a modern full-fledged three-story self-owned Head Office is the proud journey of the organisation founded back in 1968.

Last year the trust embarked on a new journey to further its mission of empowering higher-class students with a state-of-the-art Information resource Centre cum study room at its headquarters. This initiative aimed to create a soothing and conducive environment for learning, equipped with modern amenities like internet support and a rich collection of books.

The idea conceived by the current management is to understand the transformative power of education and envision a space where students can focus on their studies without the distractions and challenges, they often face at home. It reflects a commitment to nurturing young minds and helping them realize their dreams. Sajad Ahmad one student studying in the reading room is of the opinion that Educational Trust Kashmir has always been more than just an organization, it is a family, a community, and a beacon of hope. This reading room is not just a space; it is a symbol of our unwavering belief in the power of education to change lives.

For many, the reading room is more than just a study space. Here, they found not only resources and support but also a sense of community and belonging.

Hats off to this fabulous step that needs proper look after and an effective management system.

Here are a few very positive aspects of a calm reading room that can play a significant role in aiding students as they prepare for their examinations:

1. Minimizing Distractions:

A calm environment reduces noise and interruptions, allowing students to focus more effectively on their studies.

2. Creating a Routine:

Having a designated space for studying helps students develop a consistent study routine, which can improve time management and productivity.

3. Reducing Stress:

A peaceful atmosphere can help lower stress and anxiety levels, which are common during exam preparation. This can lead to better mental health and well-being.

4. Improving Concentration:

The tranquillity of a reading room enhances concentration and cognitive function, making it easier for students to absorb and retain information.

5. Encouraging Discipline:

A dedicated study space encourages discipline and structure in a student’s study habits, fostering a sense of commitment and seriousness toward their exam preparation.

6. Facilitating Group Study:

A calm reading room can also serve as a conducive environment for group study sessions, where students can collaborate and learn from each other without the usual distractions of more casual settings.

7. Providing Access to Resources:

Reading rooms often have access to books, reference materials, and sometimes digital resources that can be invaluable for exam preparation.

8. Promoting Mindfulness and Relaxation:

A calm environment can also offer moments of mindfulness and relaxation, which are essential for maintaining mental clarity and focus during intense study periods.
